What sort of events and which clients have you catered for?
Our client base is very diverse, partly due to the fact that our food is intended to be appealing to both vegetarians/vegans and non-vegetarians/vegans alike (see the next answer below about this). Since our launch in 2005, we have catered for all kinds of events, including private parties, business meetings, departmental lunches/dinners (e.g. during Christmas), yoga classes, green fairs, vegetarian/vegan festivals, local-community festivals, and others.

Not all my guests are vegan – will your food be suitable for everyone?
Yes, the food is suitable for non-vegans and vegans alike, and we are confident all your guests will enjoy the food, whether they are vegan or not. One of the reasons Shambhu’s was set up was to show how great vegan food can be Smile.
In fact, one of the advantages of providing vegan catering at an event is that a wide range of special dietary requirements are already covered.
For certain dietary requirements that are not automatically covered by virtue of the food being vegan, we can still help – see this answer.
[back to questions]

How should I go about choosing which items to order for my event?
As a first step in planning the catering for your event, we suggest you browse through the catering service menu, and also have a browse through this FAQ page. The prices indicated in the menu will give you an indication of the food costs, but depending other factors there might be additional costs. Please contact us as soon as possible before your event, using the special catering service form beneath the menu. We’ll listen to you carefully, and if you need guidance, we’ll be more than happy to help you come up with a menu suited for your event.
[back to questions]

Can you advise me as to how many “individual portions” should I order for my event?
One “individual portion” size is generally suitable for one guest if each guest is being offered only that item. For example, you might want to order a curry with rice for each of your guests as the main meal, with no other main items - in that case, it would be appropriate to choose one portion for each guest.
However, in the case of a buffet, you might want to order a variety of items, so that your guests can select a small amount of many items. In that case, one portion of a curry or a salad should be enough for about three people, given that they might have a mix of items on their plate.
[back to questions]

Are your food items suitable for sufferers of food allergies, e.g. allergies to nuts, soya, milk, etc?
If you have an allergy, please click here for further information.

Can you make gluten-free items suitable for people with coeliac disease?
If you have coeliac disease, please click here for further information and how we might be able to help.

Do you cater for special requirements such as gluten-free, nut-free, diabetic, Jain, no onions/garlic, kosher etc?
If you have such a special dietary request, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do. We should be able to satisfy most requests. If you have a food allergy or coeliac disease, please click here for further information.
[back to questions]

Which areas do you cover?
We mainly cover greater London and the home counties, but we are open to all requests, even if outside our main coverage region.
[back to questions]

What is the minimum order requirement?
For inner, central and south London addresses, our minimum order requirement is £100. We might be able to accommodate a lower minimum order for certain north-west and north London addresses if reasonably close to our base in north-west London; we'll be able to advise on this when we have your delivery address details.
[back to questions]

Do you cater for wedding receptions?
We cater at most kinds of event, wedding receptions included. Please contact us so that we can discuss your particular requirements.
[back to questions]

Do you cater at festivals?
Yes. We have experience at various environmental, community, family fun-day, and vegetarian/vegan festivals, and we often receive good feedback from customers who have tried our food. If you are a festival organiser looking to have a vegan catering stall at your event, please contact us with details of your event, booking form etc, and we’ll be in touch.
[back to questions]

Where are you based?
We are based in north-west London, UK.
[back to questions]

Do you have a restaurant?
We only provide outside catering services, and do not have a restaurant.
[back to questions]

I notice you have a lot of curries on your menu – does this mean you specialise in Indian food?
While it is true that the chef and proprietor of Shambhu’s comes from an Asian Indian cultural background and therefore has a lot of experience in preparing Indian foods, she is actually experienced at preparing a variety of foods to suit a variety of tastes.
As you’ll see from the menu, Shambhu’s is very much a multicultural catering company. We take pride in creating delicious food, drawing inspiration from traditional cuisines around the world – Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
[back to questions]

Will the food be hot and ready to serve on arrival?
For an order of up to about 50 meals, and delivered to a north, central or inner London location, we should be able to deliver the food hot. We’d use insulated boxes to keep the food hot.
For larger orders and/or other delivery areas, the food might need to be reheated on arrival before serving out. In this situation, we might be able to reheat the food for you on site if you wish - please ask us when placing your order.
[back to questions]

I prefer a cold buffet for my event – can the food items be eaten cold?
Yes, most of our items can be consumed cold too, and some items are already cold-food items by nature (e.g. the sandwiches, salads, desserts etc). We can advise further on this when you are ready to talk us about your catering needs.
[back to questions]

Can I order frozen/freezable items for consumption after several days/weeks?
Yes you can Smile. On the menu, we have indicated which items are freezable. For example, if you would like to order curries to freeze for later consumption, then these would come as portions without rice but with extra curry instead, and the price for such curry-only items is indicated on the menu.
(Note, other items are also freezable, e.g. lasagna, cheesecake, etc - a freezable option will be indicated on the menu for each item that can be frozen).
[back to questions]

Do you charge extra for delivery?
Generally, for most north, north-west and inner-north and central London delivery addresses, free delivery would apply for order values of £200 or more. For other areas and order values of below £200, a delivery charge is likely to apply, which will be made clear when confirming/discussing your order. For addresses within the London Congestion Charging Zone, if applicable, there will be an additional cost to cover the congestion charge at the currently applicable rate.
[back to questions]

Will there be any additional costs on top of the food costs?
This will depend on various factors. For example, we might need to charge for delivery depending on how far your venue is from us (see above). For deliveries to addresses within the London Congestion Charging Zone, there will be an additional cost to cover the congestion charge at the currently applicable rate. We might also have to charge for any requests beyond our usual service. In any case, we’ll clearly inform you of any such extra charges when we are in contact with you about your event.
[back to questions]

What are your payment terms?
An advance non-refundable deposit of at least £100 (depending on order size) must be paid to us by bank transfer to secure a booking. Thereafter, payment is preferably in advance of delivery by bank transfer, or by cash on delivery.
[back to questions]

Do you supply cutlery and napkins?
We can supply cutlery and napkins on request. We would generally supply strong eco-friendly plastic-like forks/spoons, made of vegetable starch and hence compostable. Similarly, we supply eco-friendly paper napkins made of recycled fibre.
If you’re able to, you can return the cutlery to us for recycling since it is reusable.

[back to questions]

I am looking for something that is not listed on your menu. Can I make a special request?
Yes, please do. We welcome suggestions for food items, and will let you know if we can accommodate your particular request for your event.

“Since I've found out about Shambhu's, I haven't missed a single one of their deliveries. The selection of food is diverse as well as tasty. I love not having to worry about where the food comes from or how it got on my plate - it's vegan, organic, and fair-trade! I've tried something different on the menu each time and am always satisfied (the chocolate fudge cake, however, I've ordered a coupe times now). I'm always looking forward to the day when Shambhu's gets delivered to my office.”
